Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 1 Course Description
This comprehensive early learning course strengthens foundational reading and communication skills. Stamina and reading comprehension gradually increase as students read fun stories and complete activities in this full-color book. Key phonics and reading concepts are systematically reviewed throughout the course for retention.
This curriculum harmoniously blends a Charlotte Mason influence with traditional learning pedagogies, offering a holistic approach to language arts education rooted in Christian values. Designed for modern homeschoolers, students will enjoy poems, picture studies, copywork, oral narration, and faith-growing Bible verses through short, engaging lessons that inspire creativity and foster retention. A helpful and detailed daily schedule:
DAY 1: Focus on a children’s book, poem, picture study, select Bible verses
DAY 2 & 3: Phonics reviews, new words, letter combination, writing practice, simple grammar concepts
DAY 4: Review grammar concepts, more phonics, fun with simple spelling and words
DAY 5: Word lists for creating your own dictionary

The Door of Salvation is read at the end of the course to provide the student with a sense of accomplishment. This not-to-be-missed book presents the Gospel in a beautiful narrative centered on the door of the Ark.
All three books are available from Master Books.
Independent Reading icons are a reminder to assign books from the family library for additional practice and to foster a love of reading. A list of suggested Master Books titles can be found at the back of the course.
Is My Student Ready to Start Level 1
Begin at this level if the student:
Has completed Foundations Phonics or another beginning phonics course
Recognizes letters and knows their sounds
Can read words with short and long vowels, consonant blends and digraphs, and simple sentences
Has the stamina to write letters and simple words
If the student is not ready to begin level 1, start with Foundations Phonics from Master Books.
